Dream in Green

Barbara Martinez-Guerrero

Today we bring you Barbara Martinez-Guerrero Executive Director of Dream in Green.  This nonprofit is located in Miami, FL and aims to empower individuals, especially youth, to lead in the response to climate change and other environmental challenges facing South Florida. By raising awareness and working with the community, Dream in Green helps develop and implement educational programs that promote environmentally sustainable behaviors.

Dream in Green started with 3 lawyers with an idea to increase the conversation surrounding environmental sustainability in Florida. They made contacts with like-minded local teachers and worked with the local government to integrate this new curriculum. The Green School Movement caught like wildfire and now there are over 100 schools in South Florida participating in their green initiatives, like beach clean-ups and social media campaigns on Earth Day. By introducing this holistic approach to environmental sustainability at a young age, children are becoming more aware of the influence we all have on the environment that surrounds us, and more importantly how we can help.

Dream in Green has diverse offerings on its website complete with downloadable lesson plans, water/energy-saving behaviors, and upcoming free local workshops. They encourage visitors to their site to use this information and get involved in any way that they can in their local community.
